  • Community Service Day at SBER.com

At SBER, we believe in taking responsibility for the community at large. Through our commitment and passion, we have, on countless occasions, inspired others to share in that responsibility. By encouraging volunteerism. By believing in neighborhoods. By working closely with our strategic partners to take existing programs and raise their profiles and impact. In these ways, as well as in many others, we constantly work to make a difference.

COMMUNITY SERVICE DAY

On this day each year, hundreds of volunteers, spend a day in parks, schools, or other venues providing hands-on work to repair, beautify, and create facilities that benefit and enrich the lives of the citizens of Rhode Island. Fortified with broad support from dozens of sponsoring businesses through financial gifts and in-kind contributions, volunteers from the business world work side by side with community residents to improve neglected public spaces, parks, and much more.

The success of the Community Service Day hinges on friends, families, students, teachers, parents, and civic-minded businesses and their employees rolling up their sleeves and volunteering to help transform Rhode Island's cities and town.

Our Past Projects Include:

  • 2003: Donigian Park
  • 2004: Donigian Park
  • 2005: William D'Bate Elementary School
  • 2006: Riverside Mills Park

COMMUNITY HIRING

SBER focuses major effort on creating access to construction job opportunities for community residents. Our community hiring coordination works in partnership with local community groups and the City of Providence to recruit, screen and hire area residents from the targeted project neighborhoods. SBER is working closely with the City of Providence through its Providence Connects initiative which helps organizations that receive a benefit from the City such as grant funding or a tax stabilization agreement to set and achieve goals related to hiring Providence residents.

MINORITY BUSINESS OUTREACH

SBER's corporate philosophy has always included a pro-active approach for achieving Minority and Women Enterprise compliance goals. We believe that in order to achieve our goals we must plan ahead. As a company we want to increase our outreach efforts to city and state certified MBE/WBE specializing in the construction field. Our current goal of MBE/WBE hiring is 10%.
